How Much Time Do You have?

In my personal opinion, I’d say 10 days is a good amount of time to really get a good flavor for the region and what all the various tribes are about (including travel to and from Arba Minch). 8 days or  less; you’re going to have to pick and choose what you see and what you’re going to have to leave out. In this case i will have the ears to the ground on when events are happening and how to arrange which towns you need to be based in, for how long, and in what order.

Payment

UNDERSTANDABLY, USUALLY INDEPENDENT GUIDES IN ETHIOPIA LOOK FOR SOME SORT OF GUARANTEE THAT YOU’LL ACTUALLY COME IN ORDER FOR THEM TO MAKE PLANS AND START SECURING THINGS LIKE HOTELS AND LOCAL GUIDES ON THE GROUND.  SO THE EXPECTATION IS THAT YOU’LL HAVE TO PAY ROUGHLY 20% OF THE NEGOTIATED PRICE UPFRONT. SO WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER 80% OF THE PAYMENT?  WELL YOU COULD BRING THE REMAINING IN CASH AS WELL.

Things you may Wondering About

While you’d keep a high level overview of some of the basic things that you’re going to be wondering as you head into planning.

Food

IMG 0931 e1467295869550

You’re going to be having a lot of Ethiopian food along the way as you like. I would have some pictures here. Try the local injera, the food is hot and spicy but international options are available.

Accommodations

  • Arba Minch: Most of you will fly into Arba Minch. Arba Minch being the largest city in the southern region, this is where you’ll be able to find nice lodges of all stars levels.
  • Jinka: In Jinka we have many hotels including the Orit Hotel along the main street, Jinka resort, Gohi and others and only one lodge named ECHO lodge this one seems expensive as compared to the national standards as well as deliverable service but the bed is comfortable.
  • Turmi: To say that I was relieved to be staying in a lodge the day after camping is an understatement. Everyone has quite impressed with the Busika Lodge actually and Turmi lodge or Kizo lodge have a moderate service
  • I would have something about visas - not sure what the latest situation is but 30 day tourist visa on arrival, Health - malaria etc - what is your advice?
